1. Description
Patellar tendinitis is an injury to the tendon that connects the kneecap (patella) to the shinbone. Patellar tendonplays an important role to drive the leg muscles by helping the muscle flexing the knee to kick the ball, running uphill and jumping.
Patellar tendinitis most often affects athletes who often jump like basketball and volleyball athletes. Therefore, patellar tendinitis is commonly known as jumpers knee. But people who do not exercise jumping can also experience it.
2. Causes
Patellar Tendinitis is a very common injury occurs when the patellar tendon under pressure again and again. A little bit of pressure will tear the tendon that can be repaired by the body. But when the tears multiply, will lead to pain from inflammation and weakening of the tendon. At that time, the tendon damage will continue for more than a few weeks and called tendinopathy.
3. Symptoms
Pain is a symptom of patellar tendinitis first. The pain usually comes on the patellar tendon between the kneecap (patella) and the tendon attachment to the shinbone (tibia).
Pain in the knee initially felt when starting a physical activity or after intense exercise and then advanced to the point that interferes with the activity of exercise. Finally, this pain will interfere with their daily work such as climbing stairs or standing from a chair.

4. Treatments
Doctors usually begin with nonsurgical treatments, such as:
drug
Pain relievers such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) or naproxen (Aleve, others) can help overcome the pain caused by patellar tendinitis for a while.
therapy
Various physical therapy techniques can help reduce the symptoms caused by patellar tendinitis, such as:
A. Stretching exercises. Regular stretching exercises can reduce muscle spasms and help extend the tendon
2. Strength training. Weak quadriceps muscles can also cause tension on the patellar tendon. The exercise by slowly lowering SCARA leg after flexing the knee will be very helpful.
3. Patellar tendon strap. Rope which is used to memebrikan pressure on the patellar tendon can help flatten the tendon force directly through the ropes. this way can help reduce pain.
4. Iontophoresis. This therapy is performed by applying a corticosteroid medication on the skin and then use a device that provides a low electrical charge to push the drug permeates through the skin.
Surgery and procedures
If the usual treatments do not help, your doctor may recommend other therapies such as:
1. Corticosteroid injections. Corticosteroid injections into the patellar tendon sheath around can help ease the pain. But these drugs can also weaken the tendon and make it worse.
2. Injections of platelet-enriched plasma. Ptatelet diperkata plasma injections have been tried in some people with problems on the tendon patelanya. Currently, research is still ongoing. It is hoped an injection would accelerate the formation of new tissue and help heal the tendon damage.
3. Surgery. If the usual methods do not help after for months, in rare cases, your doctor may suggest surgery the patellar tendon. Some procedures can be performed through small incisions around the knee.
